Catherine Mitchell (Canada)
Publishing Consultant
Jochen Weber (Germany)
Head of the IYL’s language sections
For the past 50 years, the language specialists at the International Youth Library in Munich have been scouring the world’s children’s book publications for particularly interesting, high quality books. They review their favourite titles in the annual recommendation list “The White Ravens” and present the books to publishers and other children’s literature professionals at the International Children’s Book Fair in Bologna each spring. Canadian publishing consultant and foreign rights specialist Catherine Mitchell and Jochen Weber, head of the IYL’s language sections, talk to US children’s literature expert Junko Yokota about the history of “The White Ravens”, the importance of the list for the international children’s book scene, and the recent re-design of the catalogue.
