Michiko Matusaka from Japan gave a lecture on Chihiro Iwasaki and the Chihiro Art Museum in Tokyo and Azumino. Michiko showed pictures of the Japanese artist best known for her water-colour illustrations of flowers and children. Chihiro Iwasaki combined Western watercolour painting with Japanese and Chinese traditional techniques for her illustrations of flowers and children.
The Chihiro Art Museum was established in 1977 to commemorate Chihiro Iwasaki. It was founded by her son, Takeshi Matsumoto, a couple of friends and experts. 1997 in commemoration of the twentieth anniversary of the Chihiro Art Museum Tokyo, the Chihiro Art Museum Azumino opened its doors in Nagano Prefecture. At the two museums the visitors can enjoy viewing the art of Chihiro Iwasaki. The institutions host a variety of entertaining programs and events, including workshops, lectures, movie screenings and even concerts. Michiko also showed a picture of Binette Schroeder visiting the museum in 1988. Thank you, Michiko!
